Morning papers and awkward news

Chuck yawned as he sat the table and read the paper. He casually took a drink of his coffee and nearly spit it out when he saw the headline. How quickly the tides turn. He thought grimly to himself. Just a few weeks ago, the press was fawning over Vanessa's relationship with Nate. Now, they were ripping it apart. Chuck sighed and put the paper aside.

It's a good morning, she decides, slipping out of the kitchen with a happy baby on her hip, a plot in her head, and a half of a bagel between her teeth. Ilsa gets settled in her high chair with her Cheerios and the bagel is removed for a moment to press a kiss to her husband's temple. "You look upset," she observes simply before sitting down.

Chuck shrugged and pushed the paper towards her. "You haven't seen the paper this morning, have you?" He asked.

"No," she admits, reaching for it. "I was a bit tied up with Ilsa and..." Oh, what the ever-loving... She glances up at Chuck, then back down to scan over the newsprint again. And again. She doesn't know what to be more upset about; Nate's mother or the fact that they were making him out to be something dirty and unfit for her best friend. "This is such bullshit."

"You know this and I know thuis." He sighed. "Do you know if its true or is that woman just trying to profit off of her son's fame? Did Vanessa ever say anything to you?" Nate sure as Hell never said anything to him if it was true. Not that he could blame him. It wasn't the sort of thing you bring up over drinks while watching the game.

She shakes her head. "Vanessa's never said anything about anything like this. But you know Nate's family, right?" She's never met anyone but Haley. "Does this seem like something his mother would pull out of her ass? It sounds... crazy." But crazy doesn't always mean wrong... Jesus...

"Anne Archiballd is abut the most manipuative and coniving person I know. That being said," he paused, "She proobably would be wise enough to cover her tracks and make sure that she got a story that at lest had some truth to it.." Chuck shook his head. "This entire ordeal is ridiculous. Just a few weeks ago, the press was enchanted with the two of them."
